Private beta for Windows and Linux

Email that finally feels finished.

Mailer is a local-first desktop email client. It connects to your existing mailbox over IMAP/SMTP, turns incoming messages into a board of things to finish, and keeps your mail on your own device.

Windows & Linux IMAP / SMTP Gmail & Microsoft OAuth Local SQLite No telemetry

Built for the inbox you actually have

Mailer is a full mail client, not a web wrapper: multiple accounts, folders, drafts, attachments, search, PGP, calendar, and background sync over IMAP IDLE.

Triage board

Messages become actionable piles: needs reply, waiting, FYI, and done. Rules and optional AI help, but you stay in control.

Real mail workflow

Multi-account IMAP, IDLE push, folders, multi-select, drag & drop, drafts, attachments, mailto: and .eml.

Composer

HTML mail with colours and alignment, per-identity signatures, Cc/Bcc, reply, forward, and a local outbox with undo.

Privacy strip

Remote images and tracking links are blocked by default. Load them only when you choose, and unsubscribe without leaving the reader.

Search and cleanup

Fast local full-text search, sender profiles, subject rules, bulk tidy views, and a timeline across all accounts.

Security

OpenPGP sign/encrypt, S/MIME certificates, and an OS-bound secrets vault for passwords and OAuth tokens.

Calendar

ICS invitations, a simple agenda, and event proposals from incoming mail.

Optional AI

Drafts, translation, and triage with the provider you configure — OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral, local models, and more.

Local integrations

An optional mailer-mcp bridge lets assistants you choose work with Mailer over a local RPC connection.

Local-first by design

Mailer does not run a mail server or a cloud mailbox. Your messages are fetched from your provider and stored on your computer.

  • Mail, attachments, contacts, calendar, and settings live in a local SQLite database and local blob folder.
  • OAuth tokens and passwords are kept in an encrypted vault sealed by the OS keyring or DPAPI.
  • No telemetry, no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no sale of personal data.
  • Remote images and tracking links are blocked until you explicitly allow them.
  • AI features are optional and use only the provider you configure.

Where your data lives

On Windows, Mailer stores its data under %APPDATA%\Mailer. On Linux, it uses $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/Mailer or ~/.config/Mailer. A portable build can use MAILER_HOME.

You can remove an account in the app and delete the whole local data folder at any time. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Google OAuth, used only for your mail

Mailer uses Google OAuth 2.0 so you can sign in to Gmail without handing your Google password to the app. The access token is used by the app's IMAP/SMTP client.

  • The Gmail scope https://mail.google.com/ is used only to read, send, and manage your email at your request.
  • Mailer does not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, or sale.
  • Mailer does not let humans read your Google data; support only sees what you choose to send.
  • You can revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Google API Services User Data Policy. Mailer's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. See the Privacy Policy for the full disclosure.

Private beta

Mailer is currently in private beta for Windows and Linux. There is no public download yet. Write to martin@kukal.cz with a short note about your setup and we will send access instructions.
